Petition
Are you still a kid at 18?
Alex Salmond and the SNP Government want to
increase the age at which people can buy alcohol from
off-licences or supermarkets from 18 to 21. The Scottish
Conservatives have been at the forefront of the campaign
against this ludicrous proposal.
You can vote at 18, join the army and fight
at 18, drive a car at 17, get married at 16, but the SNP
think you are not responsible enough to purchase alcohol
until you are 21. I believe that this is unfair and
discriminatory. If we are serious about tackling alcohol
abuse then we should be targeting measures on problem
drinkers, not demonising young people.
On the 2nd October, a Conservative motion
opposing this change was passed by the Scottish Parliament
with the support of Labour, Liberal Democrat and Green
members. Only the 47 Scottish Nationalists, under pressure
from Alex Salmond continue to support this unpopular and
discredited policy.
Yours sincerely,
Alex Johnstone MSP
Conservative Candidate, West Aberdeenshire &
Kincardine
I support Alex Johnstone’s campaign against
the SNP's plans to raise the drinking age from 18 to 21.
