Keith Lodge Closure Criticised
Stonehaven Conservatives have added their
concerns to those who have criticised the plans by the
Church of Scotland to close Keith Lodge.
At their meeting this week, members
expressed their disappointment that Keith Lodge should
close. Many of the committee were members of organisations
which had raised funds for Keith Lodge and said that the
sudden announcement was “below the belt” and that the
Community should have been given an opportunity to look at
possible alternatives to closure. Only this month in The
Leader, the Rotary Club was pictured handing over the
proceeds of fund raising activities to the Keith Lodge.
The loss of a local respite care home was
thought to be a real blow for Stonehaven and the families
who depended on Keith Lodge.
It was also noted that Aberdeenshire Council
was involved in the decision with “objectives of quality and
price” and being able to meet those objectives “elsewhere”!
The Conservatives concluded with the view
that this further erodes the facilities and jobs provided to
local folks, and it would not be the first time local
people stood up to Aberdeenshire Council to preserve
Stonehaven based services and amenities.
