Stonehaven Sports Complex
Stonehaven Conservatives are continuing
their initiative to bring a new state-of-the-art sports
complex to the town.
Team members George Carr and Alan Venters
will be writing to the leaders of Sport in the town
following numerous calls of interest already from the
sporting fraternity and interested members of the public in
response to the launch of their initiative.
They are inviting them to contribute
questions to the Conservative run survey to ascertain what
kind of sporting facilities townsfolk envisage for the
future needs of the town, and where they would like to see
development take place.
They have also had informal discussions with
some members of the recreation ground trustees and have
warmly welcomed their recent announcement in The Leader last
week for a modernisation plan.
George Carr told The Leader that the
Conservatives envisage the setting up of an umbrella
structure such as “Stonehaven Sport” which would oversee the
development of all sport provision in the town. It would be
made up of representatives from the various sporting clubs
and community groups dedicated to advancing sport in the
town. They suggest it could operate in a similar manner to
“Stonehaven It’s Special” which fundraises and assists the
Stonehaven organisations involved in staging most of the
major tourist events in the town from The Feein Market to
Fireballs.
Alan Venters added that the big advantage of
such a structure is that it could think bigger than
individual clubs on their own, have a strategic vision of
what facilities we need for the town, and be a platform to
attract grant aid and other funding but still allow each
sporting group to run their own affairs.
