Candidate ‘Taken Aback’ By Condition Of Busy Road
Today Stewart Whyte, Conservative candidate
for West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine, expressed his shock
at the state of the road surface below the railway bridge at
the junction on Kirkton Road and Arduthie Road in
Stonehaven. The state of the road was raised with him by a
resident of Forest Drive while he was canvassing on Thursday
of last week:
"After leaving her house I went to take a
look, expecting to find the usual potholes and I was taken
aback by just how bad the road surface is. It is pitted and
grooved all the way round the corner. I stood and watched as
cars negotiated their way through the damaged road surface.
I have been a candidate in Aberdeen and in
Banff and Buchan and I have reported many poor stretches of
road but this is by far the worst road surface that have
seen. It is on an already dangerous corner and driving over
the road surface causes a distraction. This is the main
pedestrian route to Mackie Academy for a large number of
pupils. I hate to think of the consequences if an accident
were to happen on this section of road. It is also clear
that the road has been in this state for some considerable
time and that nothing has been done about it. It is all the
more embarrassing for the Council as it is only a matter of
yards from their roads depot at Spurryhilllock.
The road surfaces in many parts of
Stonehaven have been neglected for quite a while now but
this is worst stretch of road that I have come across in
Aberdeenshire.
I have reported the matter to Willie Munro,
Aberdeenshire Council's Area Manager, and asked him to see
that it is inspected and that work is carried out as soon as
possible."
