Greystone Road, Alford Finally Gets Street Signs
Today Stewart
Whyte, Conservative candidate for West Aberdeenshire and
Kincardine, expressed his delight at the Council's decision
to put street signs on Greystone Road, Alford.
Mr Whyte said
"I was canvassing in Alford and a resident on Greystone Road
explained her frustration at the absence of road signs on
the street. I wrote to the Council and within a week I had a
reply saying that they had ordered signs and that they would
be located at the Haughton Arms end and the David McLean
Crescent end. I am delighted with the speed of response.
This may not be the most dramatic politics but it will
improve the quality of life for local residents, I am
pleased to have been able to help.
Greystone
Road is an established road right in the middle of Alford.
The lady who raised it with me explained that visitors found
it hard to find their house and that people often went into
the hotel at the bottom of the street to ask for directions.
I was surprised, I had never seen anything like this before.
It seems incredible that it was missed when the street was
built. I think the Council is more than a little embarrassed
- Greystone Road is the only road leading to Council's
offices at School Road, so officials have driven up
Greystone Road everyday for years and nobody noticed."
Area Manager
for Marr, Mr Leslie Allan, admitted his puzzlement at the
absence of the street signs and thanked Mr Whyte and his
constituent for bringing it to his notice.
