Planning Appeal Thrown Out
Today Stewart Whyte, Conservative candidate for West
Aberdeenshire and Kincardine, expressed his delight at the
decision to refuse planning application for 245 houses at a
small North East village.
The Scottish Executive Reporter dismissed the appeal from
Barratt Homes for the a site at Kirkton of Skene near
Westhill. The Reporter took evidence at a public inquiry
held in the Red Star Inn in the village at the end of June.
The appeal was fought by Westhill and District Residents'
Association and Echt and Skene Community Council. Mr Whyte:
"This is brilliant news. The planning application was
outrageous, it would have more than doubled the size of the
village and it would have joined the community with Westhill.
The local community fought hard to protect their area and I
am greatly relieved that we have won. Too often in the past
the Westhill area has been failed by the planning system,
hopefully this marks a turning point for local opinion.
I have written to the developers saying that the village is
not opposed to a planning application which is in proportion
to the existing community and which local facilities can
absorb."
