Arbuthnott Road in the Spotlight
Mearns
Conservative Councillor, George Carr brought up the subject
of the Arbuthnott road at the recent meeting between the
four Mearns Councillors and Area Manager Willie Munroe,
held to discuss Mearns issues.
Cllr Carr said
the time had come where Aberdeenshire Council needs to speed
up the priority given to the B967 road for maintenance and
bring it up to a better standard. He felt that crumbling
road edges in places, the camber and the road surface itself
required upgrading. Several accidents had occurred recently
between Inverbervie and Fordoun, many associated with
defects in the road and he hoped that a budget could be put
in place soon to accelerate the process of upgrading.
"More and more
people are now using this road, particularly employees of
MacPhee of Drumlithie who now recruit increasing numbers of
staff from the coastal area of the Mearns, and most of whom
use the B967 to commute to their work.
Arbuthnott
Community Council have also long campaigned for improvements
to be made to the road and have stated that if any emergency
incident occurs on the A90, then the B967 is used to divert
traffic.
We will all need
to keep campaigning for action".
