Alex Johnstone selected to contest the West
Aberdeenshire & Kincardine seat at forth coming General
Election
Stonehaven
man Alex Johnstone has been selected once again to contest
the West Aberdeenshire & Kincardine seat in the forth coming
General Election. At a well attended General meeting
of the West Aberdeenshire & Kincardine Conservatives in
Kirkton of Durris hall on Sunday, members unanimously backed
a motion that the North East MSP be adopted as their
candidate for the General Election when it is called.
Alex Johnstone was born in Stonehaven in
1961 and was educated at the towns Mackie Academy. With his
wife Linda, he ran the family farm near Drumlithie prior to
entering politics as a member of the Scottish Parliament in
1999. The couple have two grown up children.
Mr Johnstone has previously fought election
campaigns in the neighbouring constituencies of Gordon and
Angus before contesting West Aberdeenshire & Kincardine for
the first time in 2005.
Addressing members after his adoption, Alex
Johnstone said, “It is a great honour to have been selected
once again to carry the Conservative banner in this critical
election. In an election which will see the return of
a Conservative Government under David Cameron, this
constituency can choose to regain a position of strength at
the very heart of government. In the past, we have
prospered through strong Conservative advocacy but the
passive and submissive approach of our current
representatives has left us at the very margins of
influence. I call on the men and women of West
Aberdeenshire & Kincardine to play their part in securing
true local representation, in protecting our way of life and
strengthening the United Kingdom by sending me to the House
of Commons at the next opportunity.”
Following the meeting Association Chairman
John W M Duncan said "I congratulate Alex on his selection
and look forward to him being elected as a member of a
Conservative Government and being a truly local candidate
representing the interests of WA&K which has been sadly
lacking over the past 10 years."
