Relief in Lyne of Skene as
Planning Application for 40 Houses Refused by Garioch
Councillors
Garioch Councillors refuse an application to
build 40 houses at North of Letter site Lyne of Skene.
Spokesman for the Lyne of Skene Action Group
and local resident Alan Holmes, who addressed the 14 Garioch
Councillors said that “if they supported the Chap Homes
application to increase the number of houses from the
present 27 houses to 67 houses that this would be a
detrimental decision and would destroy the quality of life
of this attractive Aberdeenshire village.” He said “an
increase in the number of dwellings by 150% approximately
must be resisted.”
Ron McKail, Westhill and District Councillor
added his support and said “I took the view that this
application for 40 houses was out with the current
Aberdeenshire local plan and if it should get the go ahead
it would destroy the life style and the culture for the Lyne
of Skene householders.”
He Added “that the local primary school
could not cope with the additional pupils of these extra
families; and the local roads adjacent to the proposed site
entrance were not designed to safely cope with a development
of this size.”
The other three Westhill ward Councillors --
Alan, Cullen and Saluja voted in favour of the motion to
refuse the application and which was unanimously agreed by
the Garioch Area Committee councillors.
