Westhill Tories Criticise Lack of Sports Facilities for
Local Kids
At the branch meeting of the Westhill
Conservatives members were briefed by the Chairman Ron
McKail on local issues. Top of the agenda was the lack of
recreational facilities in Westhill for children and young
people which was seen as one of the reasons for local kids
hanging about the town centre and street corners, often to
the annoyance of local residents.
Members were very concerned at the way the
Carnie estate’s all weather pitch, which has recently come
into the ownership of Aberdeenshire Council, is to be
hired out to local youth teams for inter- league matches and
competitions. This is in spite of there being no toilets or
team changing facilities on site.
Ron McKail who is also a Westhill Councillor
explained to the members that in his meetings with Council
officers that he had suggested a possible and simple
resolution to providing facilities for the local estate
children was to "upgrade the grass area next to the all
weather pitch and this would create a suitable 5 a side kick
about area with goal posts and appropriate pitch markings.
If we were able to erect a few standard street lights around
the perimeter this would go some way to providing an
acceptable play area for local children from the Carnie
estate" he said.
