MSP Welcomes Transport Improvements
Scottish Conservative transport spokesman,
Alex Johnstone MSP has warmly welcomed the positive attitude
being taken by The North East of Scotland Transport
Partnership, known as NESTRANS, towards the future
development of road and rail services in the North East.
A statement from the organisation seems to
make it clear that they believe the region is emerging from
years of uncertainty and that 2008 was a year of preparation
leading towards real delivery from 2009 onwards.
Welcoming the statement, the Northeast MSP
said, "The completion of the Aberdeen Western Peripheral
Route public enquiry means that we should now be able to go
forward quickly to the tendering and then the construction
phases delivering real benefits to the Northeast in the near
future.
"I am particularly encouraged by the
organisations optimism about the future development of local
rail services for Aberdeen and neighbouring towns. The
opening of the new station at Laurencekirk in the spring,
coupled with exploratory work on a new station at Kintore
and further upgrading work at Aberdeen all point towards a
positive future for local rail transport.
"It's time for everyone who wants to see
better transport links for Aberdeen and the Northeast to
pull together and work with this local agency, sharing its
optimism and pushing these developments forward for the
benefit of all."
