Local Candidate Holds Talks With Opposition Leader
Local
Conservative Candidate Alex Johnstone MSP held talks in the
North East last week with opposition leader David Cameron
MP. Mr Cameron was on a flying visit to Arbroath as part of
his trip to the Scottish Conservative Party conference in
Perth when Mr Johnstone caught a moment to bring him up to
speed on the priorities of the West Aberdeen & Kincardine
constituency. Mr Johnstone also accompanied Shadow
Chancellor George Osborne as he met representatives of Oil &
Gas UK in Aberdeen on Thursday.
Speaking after the two meetings, Mr
Johnstone said; "I was particularly impressed by the
knowledge and interest which Mr Cameron has for the North
East, it's traditions and it's history. He enthusiastically
expressed his desire to return to the area as soon as
possible."
"Both men have a clear understanding of the
importance of the North Sea Oil & Gas industry to the
economy of this area as well as to the whole of the United
Kingdom and their willingness to do what is necessary to
underpin the industry from Westminster was clear."
"George Osborne in particular, has built up
a striking rapport with some of the key figures in the North
East and has shown a clear appetite to do more when he has
the power to do so. Anyone in West Aberdeenshire &
Kincardine who's job depends on the success of the Oil & Gas
Industry can be assured that they will have a bright future
under the leadership of these men."
