Aberdeenshire Recycling Figures Up Again
Local Conservative candidate Alex Johnstone
MSP is delighted that Aberdeenshire recycling figures have
shown a dramatic improvement for the second year in a row.
Aberdeenshire achieved a recycling rate of
23% in 2006/2007, an increase of almost 8% on the previous
year. This has improved again last year, when the figure
was raised to 31.2%.
Commenting, Mr Johnstone said "These year on
year improvements are excellent, and testimony to the
growing awareness of just how important it is to maximise
our resources by recycling."
Although figures for neighbouring Aberdeen
City showed a slight increase from 21.5% to 22.2%, they are
still 9% behind the Shire.
Mr Johnstone continued "Clearly, urban and
rural authorities face very different challenges when
promoting recycling, but this is still a substantial gap.
The people of Aberdeenshire have clearly taken the important
message of recycling to heart, and I commend their
enthusiasm. We can all make a difference when cutting down
on waste which is sent to landfill, and I would urge people
to keep up the good work and help make the next set of
statistics another record breaking year for Aberdeenshire."
