Cllr Ross Thomson welcomes signing of the Aberdeen City Deal

Conservative group leader on Aberdeen City Council, Councillor Ross Thomson, has today welcomed a £250m UK City Deal which was officially signed off today at Aberdeen Town House.Councillor Ross Thomson joined the Secretary of state for Scotland David Mundell MP  and Parliamentary Under-Secretary of state for Scotland, Andrew Dunlop, on their visit to Bibby Offshore to discuss the real opportunities for North East subsea companies to benefit from a newly signed Memorandum of Understanding between Pemba in Mozambique and Aberdeen City. Following this visit the Aberdeen UK City Deal was officially signed off by the Secretary of state on behalf of the UK Government at Aberdeen’s Town House.

Scottish Conservatives call for more protection for school playing fields

Dr Nanette Milne  Scottish Conservative MSP for the North East has called on SNP Ministers to provide more protection for school playing fields. The call comes after it was revealed that 19% of secondary schools lost school grounds to development. Dr Nanette Milne, Scottish Conservative MSP for the North East said:“A survey undertaken by the Scottish Poverty information unit in 2003 found that 19% of secondary schools have lost school grounds to development in the last ten years – with about 10% of secondary schools losing playing fields.

MSP encourages residents to sign up to flooding relief scheme

Nanette Milne, Scottish Conservative MSP for the North East has called on local residents in Aberdeenshire who have been flooded to sign up to flooding relief scheme.The total of £16 million will see the SNP Scottish Government contribute £2 million to the £14 million which is to come to Scotland from the Barnett consequential funding announced by Chancellor George Osborne to help communities affected by flooding. Aberdeenshire Council have been allocated £2million, and Aberdeen City Council £500,000.

MSP calls for national strategic review of flooding infrastructure

Nanette Milne, Scottish Conservative MSP for the North East has called on the SNP Scottish Government to instigate a national strategic review of flooding infrastructure and management following the latest incidents of flooding in Aberdeenshire. Nanette Milne, Scottish Conservative MSP for the North East said:“My thoughts go out to all those people who have been affected by the flooding we have seen over the last 24 hours. It is vital that help and support is provided to help home owners and businesses recover.“I would also like to pay tribute to out emergency services and local councils who have worked tirelessly to try to protect homes and keep local residents safe.  

Call for community consultation on super pylons through Aberdeenshire

Nanette Milne, Scottish Conservative MSP for the North East and Alexander Burnett, Scottish Conservative MSP candidate for Aberdeenshire West have called for a community consultation on proposals by SSE for super pylons through the Howe of Alford. Under plans being drawn up by Scottish Hydro Electricity Transmission new pylons could stretch 103 miles from Beauly in Inverness-shire to Keith in Moray and then onto Kintore in Aberdeenshire.

New Scottish Conservative Councillor elected in Aberdeenshire

Margo Stewart has been elected to serve the ward of Huntly, Strathbogie and Howe of Alford following a by-election held on Thursday 5th November. Margo topped the poll with 1,469 beating her SNP opponent by 36 votes. There were two Councillor vacancies in the ward so both Margo Stewart and Gwyneth Petrie have been elected.

MSP calls for assurance on future funding for NHS Grampian

Dr Nanette Milne , Scottish Conservative MSP for the North East has called on SNP Ministers to guarantee NHS Grampian does not go back to a lower level of funding per head of population.Speaking at Portfolio Questions the North East MSP challenged John Swinney MSP to give an assurance that the Health Board won’t fall behind again in the future.

MSP calls on First Minister to fight postage charges ahead of Christmas

Ahead of the busy Christmas season North East MSP has called on the First Minister to host a conference with all major retailers to address the issue of North East consumers and companies being hit by unfair delivery charges.Citizens Advice Scotland have reported that up to one million people living in Scotland are being "routinely ripped off" by unfair delivery charges. 

Sir Ian Wood role welcomed by local Conservative candidate

Welcoming that the leadership of the private sector participation in the City Deal Governance Group will be carried out by Sir Ian Wood as the chairman of the newly formed private sector led Economic Leadership Board, the Vice Convener of the Finance, Policy and Resources committee, Councillor Ross Thomson, made the following statement at committee this afternoon:“A UK Government City Region Deal signed, sealed and delivered for Aberdeen will give us the powers and the resources to build on the fantastic economic successes of this great city.
