My name is Alexander Burnett and I live in Banchory with my wife, Lavinia and our family. I became involved in politics over two years ago when I stood to be the Conservative candidate for West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine in the 2015 General Election. I have gained a huge insight into the workings of politics within these two years and I strongly believe that the combination of this experience and my local knowledge of the area, I can be the best representative for our area in Holyrood.
Here in the North-East, we face challenging and difficult times, especially for our vital oil and gas industry and the thousands of families who depend on its continued success.
As a local businessman with a strong family connection to the area, I have always taken a keen interest in our region’s long-term sustainability, which has led to my passion for conservation and renewable energy.
Before returning home to the North-East, I worked abroad for 9 years in Azerbaijan.
As an unofficial Scottish tourism ambassador, I understand the importance of actively promoting our community.
We need a strong champion for our area.
One who will always stand up for our needs.
These needs range from delivering a better education for all; ensuring our justice and health systems receive the attention they deserve; and, the more basic provision of broadband, mobile phone coverage and rural public transport.
I became involved in politics two years ago as a candidate, and what an important and critical time these two years have been.
One referendum won decisively, but the threat of a second seemingly never far away.
The Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party truly are the one Pro United Kingdom party you can rely on to stand up to - and win against the SNP.
Next May is a huge opportunity for the Scottish Conservatives.
Now more than ever we need a strong and loud team of voices from the North East to be heard in the Scottish Parliament over the next five years.
We are extremely fortunate here across the North East, but we can always strive to be better. I know that our vast region faces many different struggles, but I know that with your support and guidance, we can ensure that no part of the North East is forgotten about. I want to stand up for all of you, all the way from Dundee to Buckie, and Aberdeen to Braemar.
Together, with your vote, we can build a better place today for all in our community.
A better place tomorrow for future generations.
Thank you all for the kind support and encouragement so far and I look forward to speaking with many of you in the future.
